STAFF & LEADERSHIP
Our church culture and leadership are characterized by the love of God, living out the Christian call to obedience in our lives, and a genuine call to ministry. Below are the Elders who have been entrusted to lead South Buckhannon Church in all its ministries and decisions.
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.

ED LOWTHER
PASTOR, ELDER
Ed is one of the most passionate preachers we know, and we love him for it! The most important thing to him is getting the Gospel right and he has the deepest desire to see people genuinely saved. He spends his time serving our church with his whole heart. He loves on us when we need loved, has a gentle but strong spirit to teach and guide us, and gives us with the truth even when it's hard to hear - all in an effort to ensure the church body is equipped and zealous about obeying Jesus. He also is the elder in charge over the music ministry at SBMC.
MARK HARPER
TEACHING ELDER
Mark is known to many in our community, and he has been and elder of SBMC for what seems like a century. His primary roles are to teach Sunday School on the monthly rotation and to help disciple new church members. He does this through a "Survival Class" he teaches about once a year for the newcomers to our church. It is incredibly important to Mark to help equip new believers in the foundational aspects of Christianity through teaching them to share their testimony, learning the proper way to pray, and the importance of memorizing scripture.
KEVIN JOHSTON
WORSHIP LEADER, ELDER
Kevin is probably the nicest person on the planet (we all know one!). He is the smiling face we see most Sunday mornings leading us through the morning worship service and his happy demeanor and big hugs are some of the most welcoming things at SBMC. He serves as the overseer of the kids' ministries and we all can count on him to help, no matter what the circumstance.
DAN BLAKE
TEACHING ELDER
Dan has been teaching our Sunday School classes and the occasional Bible Study for over 15 years. At times, he has filled in preaching for Pastor Ed, when needed. He is zealous for the truth and loves to ensure that everyone who attends our Bible studies is learning and understanding the deep truths of scripture. He spends many hours preparing for lessons to make sure the Word is thoroughly taught. He also serves as the elder over our sound system ministry.
JOHN CALE
TEACHING ELDER
John is the guy we can count on to bring us great teaching in an encouraging way that is personal and applicable to our lives. He spends much of his time prepping for the lessons and has been teaching us for many years. He shares in the monthly teaching rotation for Sunday School classes for the adults and is the elder over our mowing crew. If Kevin is out of town, John will also be the face you see leading us in the worship service.
